I have a tee shirt with this caption. It gets a lot of smiles, and yes, smirks. I am okay with both reactions as my goal is to get people thinking. I could be writing about a lot of topics given the state of our world but being kind to one another is what I think is what we all need now.

it’s not easy to be kind. So many messages in our culture today are about hate, decisiveness and dehumanizing those who look or think differently. Too many of us have gone numb to the atrocities in Ukraine, Gaza, and Israel. We default to that is just the way the world is right now. But the force against this hate tsunami is an individual choice we all have to make. To choose generosity and kindness or stinginess and hate. You may think me naive but I don’t see another way out of this. To think that countries, politicians, and institutions will ‘come around’ is wishful thinking.

An epidemic of kindness begins one person at a time. My challenge to each of you is wildly unambitious – Be kind to someone today. Take in how it makes you feel and the reaction of the person to which you are kind. There are bonus points if you are kind to yourself!
